St. Augustine School is a Roman Catholic school in the Diocese of Providence. Bishop McVinney of Providence blessed the opening of the parish school in 1952. The pastor of St Augustine Church, Father McConnell, with the Sisters of St. Ursula began the mission of St. Augustine School with 300 hundred children enrolled in grades 1-6. So the tradition began.
St. Augustine provides a faith-based education teaching students, the Way, the Truth, and the Life of Christ. Excellence is achieved by educating the whole person, body, mind, and spirit. Through the teaching of scripture, doctrine, feasts, devotional prayers, and practice, students learn about the Catholic faith. The lessons are intertwined throughout the school day as well as Catholicism being taught as an academic subject.
As a school community, each day begins with daily prayer, a reading from scripture, and reflection. Christian values are reflected throughout the day to help develop a Christian community of students, teachers, parents, and clergy. Students host Mass once a month, and on Holy Days of Obligation, the Rosary club meets once weekly, and monthly Adoration is observed.
All students participate in Christian service. Students reach out to the needy in the community and learn how to be part of a giving community. Each student in the middle school is partnered with a student in the lower grades to build a sense of belonging and responsibility. By challenging our students, they will become rounded individuals who live their lives following the teachings of Christ.
